Questions about: Guidance

Yasmin: (05/09/07) Dear Jack, Recently, you answered a man who had a question concerning his confusion with what is God's will. I am trying to change so badly and follow God's will before my soul breaks into pieces, but someone recently told me that I don't really want to change. I do! No matter how much I pray and cry out in the dark, I fail! Is the Lord so mad at me? I can't understand what is wrong with me! I feel like a poor Christian. I know so many scriptures and I pray and stuff and I am like a monster! I am so very scared of the future! Yasmin

Jack: Yasmin, I think the first step is to respond to Jesus' invitaion: "Come unto Me, all of you who are tired from carrying heavy loads, an I will give you rest" (Mt 11:28).

He wants to comfort you as a caring Father, who knows your struggles, but even more, knows your heart. Was the Waiting Father angry with his suffering son? The picture we receive is that He is full of compassion and understanding and elcomed him home with much love.

I would encourge you to study carefully Romans 7 and 8, where Paul opens his heart and expresses his own tension between what he desires and what he does. This struggle led him to a vital experience with the Holy Spirit, as he discovered that by depending on God's grace, presence, and power he was able to achieve victory and joy.

May the Lord guide and bless you as you continue your own spiritual pilgrimage.

Jack
