| Erica: (08/30/07) I was recently visited by a Jehovah's witness and I didn't want to be rude so I listened to what he had to say. He gave me a few verses in the bible about salvation and now I am doubting what the bible really says about going to heaven. A lot of it had to do with Revelations and that it was God's intent for us to live forever on an earthy paradise. Only 144,000 will go to heaven. Is there any verses that will make me surely believe that I am going to go to heaven when I die and not just wait until Armegedon and be judged to see if I can stay on earth forever?? It is really keeping me up at night!
Thanks so much,

| Jack: Erica, I trust that your recent conversation with the Jehovah's witness will be stimulus to investigate more thoroughly what the Bible teaches so that the presentation of a few verses won't confuse you next time.
Rather than give you just another set of verses, I would encourage you to read carefully the first five chapters of Romans, carefully and slowly. Sit down with paper and pencil and outline Paul's logical presentation of the Gospel. There may be some thoughts you will not understand, but the basic outline should be clear. In essence, he shows that: - all of us have a problem: we are sinners (Romans 3:23). - Jesus came to take our sin (Romans 5:8). - We are called to respond to God's free gift of salvation, which includes peace with God (Romans 5:1). - He ends Chapter 5 with reference to Eternal Life. But you will see that the Gospel is more than just being sure of Eternal Life. It involves repenting of sin, entering into a personal relationship with God, experiencing His life, and being changed by His Spirit. If you don't understand Romans 1-5 after reading and studying it, ask your pastor to answer your questions. I trust this experience will lead you to not only get to know God better, but also become involved in a habit of studying the Bible. Blessings on you, Erica. Jack |
