| Questions about: Getting involved in missions |
| Andrew: (04/15/08)
Jack, I am looking for a good summer missions program in Latin America that focuses on cultural and language immersion. I wanted to know if you had any suggestions. Thanks. Andrew |
| Jack: Andrew, without hesitation I would recommend the Spearhead program of the Latin America Mission (http://www.spearhead.org/). Most short term missions experiences are in and out - a week or two. Great for a quick look, but don't give one an opportunity to really engage. The Spearhead program is two months long. The first month is focused on preparation - language learning, living with a Mexican family, orientation to the culture, etc. The second month is hands-on ministry opportunities with local churches. By the end of the two months most Spearheaders are really impacted. They've been through the superficial "tourist" mode, the culture shock, and have come out the other side having made Mexican friends. Many don't want to leave! But check out the website and see what those who have been through the program are saying. Quite frankly, I really don't know any other program like it. Jack |
