| Questions about: Getting involved in missions |
| Bethany: (05/05/08) Hi, I have felt called to missions for eight years. I first felt the call at bible camp in 2000, specifically a call to work with kids. Not only do I still feel called, but the weeks I've spent on missions trips are the times I've felt the most ALIVE. I know this is what I was created to do. Now, I'm graduating from highschool this month. People keep asking me what I'll be doing in the the fall, and I'm getting super stressed out because I have no solid plans. What I'd really like to do work at an orphanage for several months before going to college so that I can see if that is where God wants me to be. Also so that I can see what skills I need so that I don't waste years learning things I never use. Could you give me the names of any organizations that are involved with working with orphanages or similar children's ministeries? I really just need a starting point. Any advice you can give me on how orchestrate this sort of "interternship" (if that's the right word) would be a Godsend. Thank You, Bethany }|{ |
| Jack: Thanks, Bethany, for sharing your strong sense of call. I think the idea of connecting with an orphanage would be helpful. There are some limitations:
- You are planning this rather late. You are probably graduating soon, and arrangements can take time.
- There is the language factor. Unless you get involved in an orphanage in an English speaking country, you may feel frustrated at not being able to talk with the children.
However, here are two search engines that may help you get started: http://www.missionfinder.org/orphanages.htm www.shorttermmissions.com May the Lord guide you as you search. Jack |
