Questions about: Apologetics and Theology

Mary: (07/23/08) Is KP Yohannan wrong when he says 80,000 people are slipping into hell every day and they've not heard the name of Jesus? Or 200,000 people plunging into hell every day who have never heard the gospel? I know the right theology, the emphasis here is KP wrong when he says those things? I have deep respect for him. Mary

Jack: I, too, have respect for Mr. Yohannan, Mary, even though I have a difference of opinion on his total emphasis on paying for national workers rather than sending foreign missionaries.

All of us cringe when we think of Hell and the numbers of people who are going into a Christ-less Eternity. However, we did not make up this theology; we derive it from the Bible. Jesus spoke of Hell more than any other biblical figure. This reality should stimulate us to take more seriously the whole matter of evangelism and missions.

Much has been written on what seems to be injustice that people who have not heard the Gospel are condemned. However, people are not condemned just because they have rejected the Gospel but because they are sinners. Note Paul's careful discussion in Romans 1-3. We should thank the Lord every day that in His mercy He has saved us. But the matter doesn't stop there. We who have the great privilege of being God's people are commissioned to declare the praises of Him who called us "out of darkness into His wonderful light" (1 Peter 2:9). We have been "blessed to be a blessing."
