| stanley: (11/04/09) Hi Jack, I`m glad to find out you site. I`ve been a missionary in south africa for two years. But while in Africa, I was faced with financial difficulties. Now I just relocated to Italy. Pls can you give me some guideline on how I could find financial aid and material to enable my wife and i fulfil this great call in our life. How do we get links and suport from missions board of agencies. We are planning planting a church here in our city. Kindly send me reply while thanking you in advance. |
| Jack: Thank you Stanley, for your question. I’m sorry that your missionary experience was cut short in South Africa for financial reasons.
Your petition reveals to me that you don’t quite understand how “faith missionary financial support” works, at least in most Western Countries. Mission agencies are not waiting for candidates to apply for funds so that they can support them. Most mission agencies receive applications from potential missionary candidates. When the potential missionaries go through the screening process and are accepted, the candidates then have to raise their own support through churches and friends. Until they have a certain level of financial support committed, they are not sent by the agency. Agencies in and of themselves don’t have financial resources. They usually depend on a certain assessment (about 13%) of contributions to the individual missionary to maintain the office, do public relations, print materials, etc. As a result of the above, there is little I can do to help you. I would say that you should have made arrangements for funding and supervision before you went to Italy, not after arriving. The only other possibility I could see is if you could convince existing Italian churches to support you while you are pioneering. This, of course, would depend on your knowledge of Italian, your capacity to convince the Italians that you would be successful in church planting, etc. I’m sorry I can’t do more for you. Jack |
