Questions about: Guidance

Patti: (02/17/09) Dear Jack, I am so confused! I am struggling with the decision of moving and starting anew somewhere far from what I know and what I am used to. I pray and pray for answers & Gods guidance but yet I still question every angle to what may be an answer. Is it coming from God or are things just coincidences? Am I just trying to run away from my mishaps or is He calling me to do work for Him elsewhere? How do I distinguish? Please help and pray for me to do the right thing. Should I stay or should I go? Thank you for letting me reach out to you and asking for your advice.God Bless you!

Jack: Hi, Patti. I'm sorry you are confused, but there are many who have great difficulty making decisions about what they should do.

As an illustration, take a look at all the answers I have given to people who have asked me about "Guidance." You might like to read through them and see if any of the questions or answers are helpful to you.

I really can't give you advice because I don't know your situation, but there are some general thoughts I can share with you.

- First of all, don't panic. I find that God is rarely in a hurry. Often He just wants us to slow down and take the time to think carefully about the situation we are facing. This takes time. - I have found it helpful to divide a sheet of paper in two and on one side reasons for and on the other side, reasons against. Be honest. Think of details. - As you seek the Lord each day, reading Scripture and praying, review these reasons. Ask the Lord to speak to you. Sometimes you will find that the very text you are reading speaks to your situation. - I find that when God guides me into a decision, several aspects begin to merge: = What my inner feelings favor, especially when I am in the Lord's presence. = The counsel of godly, wise friends. = Circumstances that favor or call into question the decision. = What is morally correct. = What seems logical.

As the time for the decision comes closer, you may still find yourself uncertain. However, one HAS to make a decision. Tell the Lord of your uncertainty, make the decision, and ask Him to take you through when the doubts come.

All you life you'll find decisions are hard. These are stretching times, and the Lord wants you to grow in your knowledge of Him through the process.

He loves you. He understands the difficulty. He has promised to guide us as we seek Him. Jack
