Questions about: Getting involved in missions

Kristi: (03/19/09) Help! My husband and I have known God has called us to serve overseas but we can't seem to find the right doorway. We have been mobilizing college students and adults for the last 9 years. We lead several trips throughout the year but are longing to pour our lives longterm into lives abroad. We love the nations. Any ideas? We are open. Thanks. Kristi

Jack: Kristi, as I real your message, several questions come to mind: • When you speak of “mobilizing college students and adults,” what exactly do you mean? Leading mission trips? Evangelizing and discipling? In other words, reviewing your natural gifts, educational opportunities, and practical experiences, where you do see you have borne the most fruit? This should be a guide as to possible effectiveness overseas. • As you consult with colleagues and those who have supervised your ministry, what counsel do they give you as to how you should invest your lives? • As you have led mission trips, what places draw your hearts? What do you see yourselves doing there, either as pioneers or as encouraging and aiding the vision and work of others? Help me to understand your statement, “We love the nations.” Beyond recognizing the needs of places where Christ has not yet been proclaimed, or where the Church is weak and needs strengthening, to which “nation” or ethnic group do you feel called.

Once you have been able to focus on a place and type of ministry, then it is time to explore agencies that could help you locate, channel your support, orient you, etc.

May the Lord continue to guide you as you seek your place of service.

In His Grace,

Jack
