| Questions about: Getting involved in missions |
| Jess: (06/08/09) Jack,
I am still in the early years of high school, but have felt God's call to missions. So I have a long time (sort of) to think about what college and stuff I want to go to. I feel God's call to China, and I know China doesn't really welcome missionaries. When applying for a visa to a county like that, do they look at what college you went to? And if they saw you went to a Christian/Bible college would that affect the visa? I know it's probably a silly question, but sometimes I really do wonder what they look at...
thanks for your time |
| Jack: Hi, Jess:
You question is not silly, and quite astute for someone of your age. Here are two answers: (Professor Kitty Purgason) In all my years teaching at Biola University, with graduates going to China (and other "closed" countries), I have never heard of anyone not being welcomed or being denied a visa because they graduated from a Christian university. In any case, I would make sure that the school is accredited. (Moody Bible Institute) In cases where students have needed it, MBI has issued a special diploma that does not contain the word "bible". We usually find though that the agency or organization they are working with have figured the "ropes" out about how to get teachers in position so it hasn't been much of an issue as far as I know. I trust these answers will be helpful to you. Jack |
