Step Out
Systematically and carefully work through obstacles that may keep you from the mission field
It is not easy to cross a culture, to get there from here.
• Work on a plan to pay off your student debt over time.
• Work through your relationship with your parents. Pray that they will approve of, if not bless, your going to the mission field.
• Take a language course at a local university or community college in the language of the place you feel called to. Also, take courses in the history and culture of that place, and make friends with an international student or immigrant from that place.
• Seek a life partner who shares your missionary vision.
• Make sure your personal relationships are strong. If you have any lingering relational problems with someone or a group of people, get those straightened out before you leave in missions. Remember what Jesus said, that if you have offended someone else, it is your responsibility to go to them and get it straightened out (Matt. 5:23-26). And, if someone has offended you, it is your responsibility to go to them and get it straightened out (Matt. 18:15-20). In either case, it is up to you to go to the other person and make it right. Don't wait for them. And don't head off to the mission field with unresolved relational problems that you can do something about now.
