God's Peculiar People
are not to be:
weird, or social misfits
bigots, exclusivists,
self-absorbed, or self-serving,
of any one race or class,
viewing themselves as better than anyone else,
religious instead of spiritual,
conformed to this world.
are to be:
working to be full of grace and truth,
learning to love all people,
becoming sacrificially generous,
life-long learners about kingdom living,
undergoing deconstruction of old ways and regeneration,
recovering sinners, learning repentance and holiness,
guided by God, not culture.
"But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's own people, in order that you may proclaim the mighty acts of him who called you out of darkness and into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people. Beloved, I urge you as aliens and exiles to abstain from the desires of the flesh. Conduct yourselves honorably." (Peter to the scattered believers in I Peter 2:9,12)
Lord, wean me from my craving of cultural acceptance, which is usually much less than what you designed me for, and what Christ died to restore. Help me live by your agenda and accept the implications that come with its ways.
