Lord, I'm Just One:

among six billion of your "image and likeness" on earth today,
convert who would like to bear much more fruit,

son of a gifted but deeply troubled deceased father,
brother trying to establish a healthy relationship with my only sibling,

husband of a woman who has focused her world around mine for years,
dad of three adult children who are really coming into their own,
grandpa sorting out my role in a growing family,
brother-in-law trying to be a relative who is beneficial,

white male in a world that is finally choosing to affirm women,
recovering John Wayne wannabe working on frozen emotions and stoic individualism,

co-worker who has made his living talking and would like to become a listener,
older employee among twelve hundred in  a youth ministry organization,

Presbyterian who grieves over how we treat each other to the detriment of our witness,
Midwesterner who delights in my location,

American
who is proud, but embarrassed about our world domination and consumption,
senior citizen caught between finishing well and deferring to younger leaders.

"I am confident in this, that the one who began a good work among [in] you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ. And this is my prayer, that your love may overflow with knowledge and full insight to help you determine what is best, so that in the day of Christ you may be pure and blameless, having produced the harvest of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ for the glory and praise of God."
(Paul in Philippians 1:6-11)

Lord, thank you for loving me long before I existed, or even noticed and responded to your work on the cross and the empty tomb. Thank you for many friends, and the potential for deeper companionship.

"We love because he first loved us."
