Our time at Armonia has so far been full. We’ve mostly been teaching English, spending time with the kids, and forming relationships with the people from the community.

Last night after a community meeting we sang las mañanitas (Mexican birthday song) to one of the little girls and spent the next two and a half hours just hanging out, enjoying one another’s company. It was beautiful. I don’t know how else to describe it. Surely the kingdom came that night.

Talking turned into laughing and from there we decided to pull out the CD player and dance. Atsin, one of the kids I’ve gotten to know better, taught me how to dance salsa. She’s 12, but she was pretty patient with me as I am not a dancer.

The Mexican culture is so beautiful in the sense that they see no difficulty in enjoying one another’s presence. They dance together in their culture of ‘hanging out’ and of celebrating for all occasions. Even in its material poverty, this community has a richness that it can claim as its own. It’s vibrant.

The people at Armonia have committed themselves to one another, their families and the bettering of their community. I love their vision to see poverty transformed into life. They take a holistic approach so it’s not just about people having more money, but about learning to believe that things can actually change in their communities, in their families, in their children’s futures, in their marriages, everthing - because Jesus wants to restore all of it. I love it.

Overall, we’re doing really well here. We’re learning more every day and our relationships are ever growing and deepening. Thank you all for your prayers!
