Real Simple Lifestyle

We’re back!
It was an interesting 40 hours of travel home for me. Didn’t sleep much, was a little shocked by large amounts of white people in the San Francisco airport, I brought a cold home with me that includes a loud and annoying cough, and jet lag has been harder since I don’t have a lot scheduled to keep me awake!
The biggest problem, though, has been my readjustment to American food. I’m about there, but for a while I couldn’t eat without feeling pretty awful. I didn’t expect that.
I’ve enjoyed connecting with friends and family and talking about their summers and attempting to give them a feel for what mine was like. I’ve had some good conversations/emails. I haven’t had any overwhelming reactions to reentering a very blessed society, but I did react with wide eyes as I looked at a Real Simple magazine.
This magazine has a lot of home furnishings and room décor for sale. I saw a picture of two darling little girls in matching bathrobe capes standing at two sinks in a colorful bathroom with towering mirrors and soaring ceilings, brushing their teeth. What I would have considered cute before has become really opulent. I closed the magazine thinking of the bathroom I brushed my teeth in all summer.
I’m tired so this wrap-up entry may be a little sad, but I do want to say that the Trek has made me reconsider many of my lifestyle patterns with new perspective. I’ve been studying Amos since getting back and it’s a joy to have real life application for the principles it covers. This was the perfect trip for me after graduating from college and I wouldn’t trade what I’ve learned for the world.
