Tracking the Trek 2003
Children and ParentsMy Room; 9:05 am
For our class in Cartolandia there has been this woman named Elena who has been allowing us to use the classroom that is behind her house. I knew that she was a Christian, but yesterday she told us her amazing testimony. Basically, she was with a man who was very violent. He was a drunk and would beat people and tie them up.
She became a Christian and was praying that God would change her “husband.” One day she came home and he would not let her in. She was desperate and had to get help from her pastor. Things started to turn around for her and she is now with another man who just became a Christian three weeks ago.
The only thing that is sad for her still is the fact that two of her children don’t want to live with her because they don’t like the conditions of Cartolandia. She knows that all of her past problems go together and that is why her children don’t live with her. It was plain to see in her face how much heartache is involved in the situation, but she has some great faith.
While she was telling her story she was totally opening up the heart of another woman in our class named Juana. Juana was having a hard time getting so much information about how God can transform your life, but I know that God is preparing her heart to receive His love. The hardest thing for me was to hear about how Elena’s children don’t want to live with her. She said that she is working so hard to make their home better so that some day her children might want to move in with her. The sad thing is that I don’t know if they ever will.
It makes me think of things that I have said to my parents in the past that may have hurt them. I am sorry, that was never the intention. I know that parents try their best to provide what they can for their children. For some, like Elena, it is not much but it is the best. Please be in prayer with our team as we ask God to heal Elena’s family and to draw Juana closer to Him.
With hope for transformation,
