Trek City: Bangkok

Meet the rest of Team Bangkok

THE SCOOP ON EMILY:
Emily is humbly willing to go wherever God leads, even if journeying with him entails surprises along the way, including ministry in Thailand. "I am not sure what I want to do later in life yet having to do with missions, but I am just following where God has led me.

Emily discovered the Trek at Urbana 2000. Having already discerned an interest in urban missions, a seminar at Urbana challenged her to go this summer. "I am still trying to follow as he taked control of finances, but I know that it will all work. I am just basically taking it as it goes and trying to follow and listen as much as possible. Where God will take me in the future is up to Him."

emily2.jpgI love my family. I am blessed with a Christian home and wonderful supporting parents and siblings. My sister and I went to UC Davis together and she has been looking out for me, keeping me accountable. She always asks how I'm doing in every situation and lets me know that she is praying for me continously. My brother and I have started getting closer, to talking about real life stages, just about a year ago. I love all our emilychristmas.jpgconversations. My parents have been supporting me continuously. They have prayed for me everyday. I am at UC Davis because of their prayers. We're a fun family and I love the sense of humor we all have. We all have our own unique personalities that makes up a pretty interesting family.

Reflections on Urbana 2000

Anticipating the summer in Bangkok . . .
I have many, many fears. This is a new experience for me. Number one, I'm a little scared of meeting the team. I don't know if this sounds bad, but I'm scared that I will feel out of place. I'm not sure the ethnicity of the other people but I'm pretty much sure that it's not Asian. I think only one other person is.

It will be a great experience. I think packing is going to be hard. I'm a heavy packer. Being in an other country and trying not to step on their toes, I want to fit in as much as possible but I don't know their language, their culture, or anything.

I am very scared about the flight. I am so scared of flying! But overall I think I am basically fearful of the culture and trying not to insult or disrespect anyone there.

emilyboy.jpgPassions: Dance and kids! I love them both! I like to try to incorporate dance with evangelsim. I have choregraphed and performed in an outreach event we hold twice a quarter. It has gone great!

Nickname: Pumpkin (but only by my dad), Monkey, Em, Emmy . . . you know, all the short names for Emily.

Favorite Meal: KOREAN BBQ! It's the best. You should try it if you never have. It's the greateset. Yummy :)

Most Recent Books Read: A book for one of my classes about cross-cutural children. I acutally don't really read unless I have to. But there are those moments.

Pet Peeves: My biggest one is when people "smack," when they open their mouth while they're eating and they make that smaking noise. It really bugs me.

Bad Habits: I burp . . . REALLY LOUD . . . and A LOT . . . and in public. I forget where I am sometimes. So sorry if I offend anyone.

"Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and truth."

John 4:23,24 (NIV)
