Trek City: Nairobi

Meet the rest of Team Nairobi

THE SCOOP ON LUCY:
Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Lucy hopes to utilize her unique experiences as an American to serve others in Africa someday. And as a Nairobi team member for the Trek, Lucy is getting a further taste of what God may have in store for her future. As she puts it, "I think god is calling me to be a diplomat for an African country."

Presently she is involved in promoting issues of social justice in her fellowship so as to create a more inclusive body of believers. Lucy also seeks to build bridges between Black and Asian students by serving in the Black Campus ministries at UC Davis. She meets regularly to pray with others about her calling to Africa and is part of a musical worship team. She's also participated in short-term urban mission retreats.

Other activities for Lucy include singing, writing poetry, and simply conversing with others to hear about thier own experiences. She'll be bringing her love for people to the ministry of the Trek. "I believe God has given me a heart for the people," she says, "and I want to learn about their experiences first-hand and develop meaningful relationships with the people. . . I hope to gain a better understandind of what God's heart is for the world through the eyes of the people."

Hometown: Richmond, California; born in Lagos, Nigeria
School: University of California Davis
Major: African American Studies and Sociology, minor in Education
I chose my majors and my minor because I wanted to learn how my struggle as an African-American female affected the way I interacted with others and how they interacted and perceived. I wanted
to learn about how American society was constructed and how I can use my struggle to help and impact others. I also wanted use my majors as tools in getting into law school so that I might serve others, more specially the underrepresented folk.

""Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.""

Matthew 24:12-14 (NIV)
