Trek 2006 Home
More than halfway...
July 10

Greetings to all!  We are a little more than halfway through our trek experience at this point.  I think the best way to describe it is exaggerated rollercoaster.  One day some of us will be really depressed and down, and then the next day be hyper and full of energy and the other half will be the opposite.  At this point all but like 4 of us have been sick with some sort of digestional problems, headaches, cramps, or whatever else in your body hurts at the time.  But God is good and continues to give us all strength to do His work here.  Nobody has been out of comission for more than a day at a time, and we were pretty much getting sick in waves, so the work never came to a complete halt.  But despite all of that, we have completed all of our tasks before the deadlines and continue to spread Christ´s love.

On Tuesday (the first day after our sabbath) we went right back to work.  The groups working with World Vision were doing kids clubs and teaching people English, while the groups working in the San Martin community were working with the families on their daily chores and trying to finish the playground we were building.  Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday were more of the same, with various people recovering from being sick and others coming down with new stuff.

Saturday we were all in San Martin to try to finish the kids' park.  It was a pretty big effort with everyone working non-stop all day to finish.  We worked hard from when we got there around 11AM until about 30 minutes after it got dark at about 7PM.  Just as we were losing light we got the last rocks set in the cobblestone wall surrounding the little park.  We were all very happy that we had finally gotten everything done.

Sunday morning we woke up early to go to San Martin to set up for the health fair.  We also had to throw the finishing touch of multi-colored paint on the playground because it was being dedicated after the health fair.  It all looks absolutely beatiful.  Prepare yourselves for a little bit of colorful imagery - The playground looks like a beatiful oasis for the children in the middle of a desert.  Seeing some of the kids faces as they were playing around on the ladders and ropes was definately amazing.  Kids deserve to play on playgrounds instead of trash heaps.

The health fair was pretty cool as well.  There were doctors that came in from other parts of town with donated medicine to check people out and perscribe medications.  I think everyone had a really wonderful time.  The dedication of the park was really special.  I think a couple of the guys even cried a little.  The community was just so thankful for all of the work we had done.

In the evening we led a youth service at a church in town on the topic of sexual integrity.  It was an incredible time, and I think alot of us felt more rested after last night than we will after we have had our sabbath today, it was just amazing.

All of that brings us to today.  We had a quiet time this morning for about 4 hours and that was really good.  It is really nice to be alone with God and your thoughts.

As far as prayer requests:
  • Please continue to pray that our health would be protected
  • Pray for us to know how to encourage each other when we are down
  • Pray that we would continue to communicate well with our Peruvian teammates
  • Pray that people´s hearts would be open to the love and hope that we bring them
  • Pray that we would continue to let God´s strength drive us until we are done
Thank you so much for all of your support and prayers.  Until next time, God Bless.
