Joel and
Krista-Dawn Kimsey

Krista-Dawn never felt deeply, personally challenged on ethnic or economic issues until her college days. But urban ministry in Palo Alto, the Yucatan and several trips to Calcutta have grown in her a conviction to work for justice and to know God’s heart for the poor. As a Canadian from Edmonton now living in Oregon, Krista-Dawn has adopted the NW culture of coffee addiction while also trying to educate her American friends about the uniqueness of Canadian culture. Her talent on the piano and passion for leading musical worship inspired Krista-Dawn to earn a degree in Piano Performance at the University of Washington. She is the current worship leader for Urbana 2003.

Joel seeks the toughest, most extreme challenges in life. To that end, he's traveled to a variety of burdened cities, including Calcutta, India and Tirana, Albania. It's appropriate that Albania served as his first training ground in cross-cultural missions as his hero was herself an Albanian - Mother Teresa. It was in Calcutta that Joel’s heart became broken for the poor of the city. Jesus has placed on his heart a burden to pray for 100 missionaries to Calcutta (don’t get too close, or you could be recruited!) He's originally from Puyallup, Washington and is married to Krista-Dawn. They presently serve as InterVarsity staff at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon.

""You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.""

Matthew 5:14-16 (NIV)
