Coporate Prayer

Alex Gee

Reminding us that "prayer changes things," Alex led us in intercessory prayer over four specific nations. The following are the four prayer concerns that we lifted up before our Sovereign Lord. We invite you to continue praying with us over them.

1. U.S. Dollar becomes official currency of El Salvador

Starting on January 1st, the U.S. Dollar will be the official currency of El Salvador, replacing the colon.

El Salvador joins Ecuador and Panama in this process of "dollarization." Guatemala will undergo the same transition in May, and Argentina is in an in-between stage.

Please pray

That the dollarization will allow Salvadorans in the U.S. to more efficiently support their families at home.

That the leaders of the United States would be given wisdom to use this new power for justice, and mercy.

That the Holy Spirit would grant the American church opportunities to empower the Salvadoran church.

2. Holy War against Christians in Indonesia

Believers in Indonesia are in the second year of a Muslim Holy War against Christians there. The violence is mainly concentrated in Eastern Indonesia, where many Christians live.

Please pray

For the extensive violence and forced conversions to Islam to end.

For the Christians there to be unified and expanded in the midst of the persecution.

3. Nearly 20,000 gathered for Mission Convention – In Kazakhstan

This summer, Korean Missionaries organized a missions and worship festival for Central Asia. Christians from Chechnya, Iraq, Uzbekistan and many other nations came to pray and strategize.

Please Pray

That Jesus would use Korean missionaries to take his gospel to the nations.

Praise God for the vibrant Korean church worldwide! May he give Korean Christians wisdom as they assume leadership in world missions.

Praise God for allowing the Korean church such intimate access to a predominantly Muslim part of the world.

4. All Single Women forced to marry in Northern Nigeria

Women are fleeing Kano (kah-no) state in Nigeria, as a new law mandates all single women get married.

The events are part of a process making Islamic law the civic law of Kano state.

Prostitution is illegal in Islam, and the law defines single women as prostitutes.

Please Pray

For the end of the violence.

For the Christian women to find Christian husbands.

After praying corporately, Alex shared with us a poem that he wrote while going through a very difficult time in his life. He entitled his poem "Quit?!?"

Quit?!?
by Rev. Alex Gee
©2000, 2001, used with permission.

Why don't you quit?
Just consider it,
…well, not really quit
just a little respite
real moderate
and delicate
just for now forget
that old pulpit

Quit?!?
Why? 'cause hard hit?!?
What? and just sit?!?
And take it easy, just a bit?

Quit?!?
Not when cruelly hit!
We won't forget,
God's Holy Writ,
Our survival kit,
And armored outfit!

Quit?!?
We're too legit!
Like M.C. Hammer's hit
we’ve too much grit
and our path is lit
our hearts are knit
for all to wit,
you devilish twit
that into your mitt
you’ll never get
us to fit
or us to split
hence, we admit
we’ll recommit
and resubmit
albeit,
we will not quit!

Quit?!?
Quite opposite!
For you’ll remit
in duplicate

not commensurate,
but triplicate
it’s appropriate
that God’s docket
will not permit
Him to remit
the things you did
and we will get
back every bit
in quadruplicate!

Just up and quit?!?
Inappropriate!
and quite unfit
to just forfeit
my benefit
to transit
to a summit
where I will sit
subordinate,
that’s definite
you hypocrite!

Quit?!?
Not when emotionally hit!
And you know it
so you just get
quickly exit
to your desolate
deserving exit
to your desolate
deserving pit
‘cause when hardest hit
we don’t know, how to
quit!
