Urbana
2000 Convention Report:
Urbana on the Web
The Urbana
2000 web site, www.urbana.org, has
proven to be an invaluable communication tool before, during and after
the convention. The web site made the Urbana experience available to thousands
of people who were unable to physically attend Urbana 2000. Over 34,000
people from 55 different countries watched the web cast of Urbana's Worship
Gatherings. Many parents followed the convention in order to pray more
effectively for their children in attendance, and missionaries from as
far way as Thailand logged on to learn what God was doing through Urbana
2000.
www.urbana.org
provided and continues to provide multiple practical services and resources:
Over
60 percent of the delegates chose to register for Urbana 2000 using the web registration form.
Jack Voelkel, the Urbana 2000 missionary-in-residence, received
and answered hundreds of questions about missions through the Ask Jack
column on www.urbana.org. Jack received questions on a wide range of topics.
Many people sought information about serving on summer missions projects,
while others were interested in learning how their education and training
could be used on the mission field. A few individuals were interested
in learning the benefits of serving as a single person. Questions and
answers of general interest were posted on the web site.
Some worship music from Urbana 2000 can be downloaded from
the web site.
The search tools MSearch and EdSearch help students
find mission and educational opportunities that match their areas of interest.
Information about the 325 mission agencies, seminaries and schools that
had exhibits at Urbana 2000 is also available.
A discussion room provides an open forum for the exploration
of ideas and questions related to a variety of missions topics.
In the Next Steps section of the web site, delegates can
find multiple resources and ideas to help them live out the decisions
they made at Urbana 2000. When delegates enter their decisions, as indicated
on their Urbana Decision Card, they are able to access specific information
related to these decisions. For example, if a delegate enters that she
committed to praying regularly for global evangelization, she will receive
suggestions, such as: 1) Read a book on prayer (several books are listed),
2) Use resources to pray for a missionary or a mission (possible resources
are included), and 3) Integrate prayer for missions into your daily life
(examples are given).
