Urbana 03 News Release
For more information, contact: InterVarsity appoints Tebbe as Vice President/Director of Missions
Dr. Tebbe moved to InterVarsity from Interserve, an international, interdenominational fellowship ministering throughout South and Central Asia and the Middle East. He pastored international churches in Pakistan and Bangladesh before joining the Christian Study Center in Pakistan, a resource for the Christian churches in that country in the areas of the culture and religion of Islam. In 1992, Tebbe was appointed Interserve’s International Director. “My life is missions,” said Dr. Tebbe, “and I am delighted to be a part of awakening students to proclaim God’s kingdom.” Tebbe did his undergraduate work at Indiana University, where he was President of the InterVarsity chapter. He received an M.Div. from Gordon Conwell Seminary, an MA in Near Eastern Studies/Islamics from Princeton, and a Ph.D. from St. John’s College in Nottingham, England. “Missions and Urbana represent a huge part of InterVarsity’s commitment to student witness,” said Dr. Hill. “It is imperative that we have a leader with a heart for the world and a deep love of learning, especially about the worldwide mission of the church.” Dr. Tebbe is married to Beth, who joins her husband in working in the Madison, Wisconsin based headquarters of InterVarsity. They have four children. (Read more about Jim Tebbe here.) InterVarsity Christian Fellowship is an interdenominational ministry to university students in the United States with over 35,000 students involved on 565 campuses nationwide. InterVarsity is a founding member of the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students, advancing Christian student work in 150 countries.
