Included in the Urbana 06 seminar offerings were four special residential tracks designed to provide in-depth teaching on a particular subject area. In addition to teaching, attendees who signed up for a track were housed together and participated in special track functions as well as the general Urbana 06 program. The four tracks are described below.
Track #1 - International Students God desires to see Christian international students impact the world in extraordinary ways. This track was designed to provide international students with a unique opportunity to hear God's call to join his global mission in the context of a smaller international community. It sought to enhance the attendees’ understanding of what it means to be kingdom citizens in a multicultural world. International students, North American students who are friends of international students, and those working with international students were invited to join this residential track. In this track we reflected on what AIDS can teach us and how we can be a part of God's mission by responding to this epidemic. This track had a residential component, including Bible study and prayer groups which are unique to the AIDS track. Seminars were open to attendees living in other hotels as a seminar major. All Urbana attendees were invited to join. Track #3 - Open for Business How is God working through business to extend his kingdom worldwide, bringing economic, social, and spiritual transformation? This track was designed to help business students and practitioners pursue their calling to business in the light of God's global mission. It was the goal of this track to challenge attendees to work out of a broad kingdom vision, to equip them practically for their work, and to build up a multi-generational network of business professionals pursuing business as mission. This was a residential track open to third-year college students and up. Find out more about the track.
Track #4 - Slum Communities of the Developing World The world has moved to the city; the mega-cities of the globe are bursting at the seams as people flock to them to find work. More than one billion people live in make-shift housing and another billion are on the way. This track was designed for Urbana attendees interested in urban transformation in the Two-Thirds World. Urban church planting, economic development, waste management, child labor, prostitution, housing, and other critical areas will be addressed within this track. This was a residential track which all Urbana attendees were invited to join. Track #5 - Pastors and Church Leaders This seminar track was designed for current pastors and other church leaders who are seeking ways to help their churches have a more dynamic mission’s ministry. Seminars discussed how to effectively build a missional church that functions with purpose and commitment in a global society. Presenters discussed discipleship and mobilization toward missions including applications and resources. Participants interacted on current world missions issues and discussed ways for Christians across the world to partner in the spread of the Gospel. The track was hosted by Rev. Steve and Sharol Hayner.
