Work is not a result of the curse for the sin of Adam and Eve.  It is part of God's design of all of us.  Christians are invited to recover that calling again.  It is one way to fulfill the mandate to "Love God with all your heart, soul and mind."

Here are some of the foundational texts of Scripture for ministry in daily life:

Genesis 1:1-31: God is a worker and we are "made in his image."
There are two defining realities of the image of God in us: Work and family.

Genesis 2:1-3:  Worship is designed to remind us not to idolize our work. (Also Exodus  31:12-17.)

Genesis 3:14-24: Sin has terribly damaged us in both family life and work.

Genesis 41:33-57: A case study of a worker and his struggles. (Also Genesis 39.)

Exodus 31:1-11: The Spirit of God is given to empower us as workers. (Also Exodus 35:10 - 36:7.)

Leviticus 19:1-37: Laws and guidelines for good work.

Psalm 90: God establishes the work of our hands.

Psalm 104: God still oversees his work of creation.

Psalm 111: God is a model of how we should pursue our work.

Psalm 128:2-4: Work and family are great callings with great conflict within.

Proverbs 24:3-6,30-34: Well-used skills bring good results; Laziness brings bad results.

Isaiah 5:1-30: Work, success and trouble.

Isaiah 59:1-15: Troublesome work patterns bring bas results.

Isaiah 65:17-25: God's original dream of fulfilling work and family life will be fulfilled in heaven.

Micah 6:6-12: Guidelines for righteous workers, warnings for bad workers.

Matthew 13:1-58: Jesus teaches lessons on various work and industries in the parables.

Matthew 25:14-46: Lessons on good working.

Matthew 20:1-16: Work and pay tensions.

Luke 17:7-10: Working for the right reason: to please God.

Luke 20:9-26: Ownership and tax challenges for workers.

1 Corinthians 3:5-17: Work is to be rooted in God.

Ephesians 4:1-16: All are called and equipped for ministry.

Colossians 3:1-17: The description of making everyday work spiritual and godly.

Colossians 3:22-4:1: Guidelines for manager/employee relations.

2 Thessalonians 3:6-12: Guidelines for workers ethics.  (Also Titus 2:9-10.)

1 Peter 2:9-1: All are called by God and should work to bring honor to him.

Revelation 22:1-6: The curse of work shall be lifted in heaven and we will have dominion.
