God's World Whole Life Stewardship - Word In Life Study Bible

AUTHORITY AND RESPONSIBILITY
Luke12:35-48

All of us must deal with authority and responsibility. The parables Jesus told (Luke 12:35–48) talk about the believer’s faithfulness to God. But they also remind us of faithful conduct on the job.

To be sure, our work relationships are more complicated—and civilized—than those between slaves and masters. But in light of the principles raised in this passage, we might ask: Are we as productive when our supervisors are gone as when they are looking over us? Do we try to anticipate their needs and desires, or do we wait until told what to do?

Do we pray for our bosses and the work we do under them?

Jesus has a high regard for faithfulness. In this passage He challenges us to carry out our spiritual responsibilities in a faithful, diligent way. But clearly we need to fulfill our everyday work responsibilities with the same reliable, faithful spirit.

""You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.""

Matthew 5:14-16 (NIV)
