God's World Whole Life Stewardship - Word In Life Study Bible

IT’S WINDY AT THE TOP!
Ex.17:2

Moses had many occasions to learn what countless leaders down through history have discovered: it’s windy at the top! Lacking water, the people complained bitterly to their leader, as if he had caused the situation or had the power to fix it (Ex. 17:2).

Perhaps you’ve been through a similar experience of being in charge, knowing that you are doing the right thing, or at least the best that you can, only to hear complaints from the people following you because things are not going so well.

If so, this incident from Moses’ life is a reminder that just because you exercise authority correctly, you will not necessarily be treated favorably by others. Often the one in authority must make a real tradeoff between being faithful and being popular.

"All authority in heaven and on earth has been give to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Matthew 28:19,20 (NIV)
