LEADERSHIP EQUALS HUMILITY?
Luke22:25
Are you in a position of leadership in your job, in government, in your family, or in your church? In Luke 22:2427, Jesus shows that biblical leadership starts with humility, by serving others.
The autocratic, authoritarian leadership style has fallen out of favor among many today. Yet a subtle, far more powerful approach has appeared, characterized by manipulation and selfish ambition. Masking their true intentions, many new-style leaders pretend to offer a win-win arrangement; but they have no real concern for others, except insofar as others can help them achieve their objectives.
Both styles are out of the question if we want to lead with Christlikeness. He asks us to take the posture of a servantto genuinely concern ourselves with the rights, the needs, and the welfare of those we lead. Christ Himself has provided the example of true servant-leadership: not to be served, but to serve and to give (Matt. 20:28).
One leader in the Bible who had a reputation for humility was Moses. See The Humblest Man on the Face of the Earth at Num. 12:3.
Paul encouraged believers to develop the same attitude that Christ had. See HumilityThe Scandalous Virtue at Phil. 2:3.
